The Dog & Pony Show™ circuit: Sound event at BASS 2.27.08

"Thank you so much for putting on a great show...what distinguished panelists. Such a huge amount of information and experience was shared with us ... each panelist was extremely generous with the audience about their past experiences ... there was more than one "breakthrough" as a result of your presentations. I thank you both as an educator and as a film/video maker." -Bonita Wahl, SWA Imaging

It was a stellar sold out event at the beautiful new Bay Area Sound Studios in Marin. Hosted by Stephen Hart (Werner Herzog) with esteemed panelists John Neff (David Lynch), Chris Forrest of Studio Guappo and Leslie Ann Jones (Coppola) of Skywalker Sound. An interactive evening crowned with delectable treats from An Affair to Remember. Thanks again to the special businesses who gave so generously to underwrite this event: A Party Center in San Rafael (think "Production Center" and you'll be covered), Hilton Hotels for their generous raffle prize and, of course, our incredible hosts; Michael LeValley & Lynette Daudt of BASS.

Business Tips

Taxing Isn't It?

We're sure all of you have organized your taxes already, but just in case you still have a shoe box of receipts, Popsicle sticks with a cryptic date scrawled on them and a healthy fear of the IRS, On Point Business Services to the rescue!! Please phone Cheryl at (707)971-0864.

Re Re Re Recession:

"Those who do not understand history are doomed to repeat it…" - George Santayana

Don't let your business decisions be ruled by fear, especially when the media is encouraging you to duck and cover. Check out the history from this McGraw-Hill survey. 1980-1985 to determine if said conventional wisdom applied:
The results demonstrated that the opposite approach fared better: Businesses pursuing an increase in advertising (in times of possible recession) averaged higher sales growth than those who reduced advertising. In 1985, the aggressive recession advertisers had risen over 250% more than those that didn't keep pace.
This of course doesn't mean that output will automatically equal return; the key is making your advertising smart. Focus on ways in which your product/service makes fiscal sense. Wal-Mart, for instance, has been running an ad campaign since Sept. 2007 focused exclusively on a return to their core competency: inexpensive products for living. The results forced many analysts to dine on their criticisms.

What does this mean to Propville Merchants & Crew? We're working for you. Every day. We post your names to 4 different mail serves that we monitor every day. We post information and referrals in Yelp, Facebook, MySpace, Film Arts and BAVC. We provide pre-qualified leads to our crewmembers for photography and events. Promoting your business is our days work!

Consider this from Forrester Research, February 2008:
"It's measurable. If your social application doesn't have a measurable output, you'd better get one. But if it does — if it generates leads, or conversions, or buzz, or something useful — then you can prove its working. beinggirl.com is four times as effective as TV ads, Proctor & Gamble told us. That won't get cut in a recession."

Social Networking: make yourself known by association. Use all available tools. Befriend us: MySpace, Facebook & Yelp!
