Production Tips: Part 1of 3 by Jim Baldwin
Hot Tip: Tech Scout Your Shooting Location

"Sounds obvious, but many productions with little prep time (and who has enough prep time?) will not pre-scout the location prior to the shoot day. Confirming direction and travel conditions, planning where to park your gear, and knowing where your camera positions are in advance helps avoid confusion and can add valuable shooting time to your day. Meeting the site representatives or owners prior to the shoot day can make these important contacts part of your collaborative shooting team. Being aware of and prepared for location hazards, including the nuances of neighborly relationships, can help keep interruptions from outside the shoot to a minimum. Take fifteen-minutes for a handshake and a look around, and save yourself valuable production time on the shoot day." (415)925-9262 jim@baldwinproductions.com

Tuesday night, 11.6.07 there was a sold-out crowd at Rough House at The San Francisco Film Centre in the presidio in San Francisco; Ca. Initial offering of tickets to this event went to the local chapter of The Directors Guild, with an additional flight to Bay Area Women in Film & Television.

A savvy panel of filmmakers and technicians addressed the pre & post concerns of managing a Hi-def project. Cost ramifications and band-aids for unforeseen usages and a list of qualifiers to pose to clients before you start filming. From the local community, Leigh Blicher & Jim Rolin from Videofax were on hand with veteran experience, coupled with up-to-the-minute solutions. Real life recounts from local filmmakers Bob Zagone, ("Read You Like a Book") and Michael Jacobs ("Audience of One") and sage advice from Gary Coates, an award winning colorist. Materials from the event are available from the Propville Directory office. This event was presented under the umbrella of the Propville Dog & Pony Show ®, an outreach program offering educational events for the production community. This event was underwritten by Rough House Post, San Francisco. If your organization is interested in sponsoring a Propville Directory event, please contact us at info@propville.com
